As an Intimacy Director Coordinator, actor, writer-director, and Pasifika storyteller, my role has been to skillfully navigate the vibrant energy (Vā) within sets, theaters, rehearsal rooms, and even virtual spaces like Zoom. At Vā Productions, we cultivate an environment that celebrates creativity, equality, and camaraderie among like-minded souls passionate about storytelling and artistry. We do this with courage, empathy, kindness, humility, and alofa.
Growing up in Aotearoa and spending a decade immersed in Samoa's culture profoundly shaped my understanding of Vā, what it can embody, what it shouldn't, and the fluidity of its essence. VA, to me, represents a dynamic state of being that constantly evolves. Staying grounded and unified within this ever-shifting concept presents an ongoing challenge, one that invites us to remain present and cohesive amid change.
